The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown and The Catholic Echo Magazine hauled in 10 Catholic Media Awards at the 2026 Catholic Media Conference in Atlantic City, with Bishop David J. Bonnar, the diocesan communications team and staff winning for columns, pastoral messages and video work. The sweep spotlights a newsroom-style push inside the church, where diocesan media is becoming a louder voice for faith, memory and local identity across six counties.

Russian Submarine K-141 Kursk Sinks in Barents Sea (2000)August 12, 2026
While completing naval exercises with dummy torpedoes on August 12, 2000, the Russian submarine Kursk suffered two explosions two minutes and 15 seconds apart.
