The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has decertified Kentucky-based Network for Hope, a major organ procurement group serving parts of four states, after federal reviews found “persistent patient safety failures” and alarming reports that some potential donors may not have been dead when organ removal procedures were started. HHS says the group was given repeated chances to fix the problems but didn’t, with watchdogs now warning that both donors and patients waiting for transplants were put at risk.
