VENEZUELA DEATH TOLL SOARS… 164 DEAD, 971 INJURED
Venezuela was jolted by two back-to-back earthquakes Tuesday, a 7.2-magnitude temblor followed 39 seconds later by a stronger 7.5-magnitude main shock that killed at least 164 people, injured 971, and flattened buildings near Caracas. The damage has shut the airport, cut transit and gas service, and triggered emergency measures as rescuers race against aftershocks and fears the toll will climb.
