Leo XIV has tapped Monsignor Eusebio Ramos Morales, 73, the hard-line Puerto Rican bishop who backed mandatory COVID vaccination, crushed religious exemption letters, and helped oversee one of the world’s most restrictive Traditional Latin Mass crackdowns, to become Metropolitan Archbishop of San Juan. Ramos, a Francis-era churchman steeped in “synodality” language, also drew attention last year for praising Bad Bunny as “a very balanced person” after a private meeting, a choice sure to fuel fresh backlash as he takes command of Puerto Rico’s most visible see.
