Texas education officials are set to vote Friday on a required reading list for more than 5 million public school students that would include Bible passages alongside classics like Great Expectations, in what appears to be the first plan of its kind nationwide. If approved, the move would harden a red-hot clash over religion in classrooms, testing church-state boundaries and giving conservatives another weapon in a wider push to remake public education.
