Catholic parents and preschools asked the Supreme Court to block Colorado’s “universal” preschool program from shutting them out over faith-based requirements, after a lower court upheld the exclusion and the justices agreed to take the case this fall. The fight could force the Court to decide whether states can dodge precedent by banning religious practice instead of religion by name, with billions in aid and thousands of families hanging in the balance.
