SPAIN, CHURCH CUT HISTORIC SEX-ABUSE DEAL
Spain’s government and the Catholic Church have struck a historic pact to compensate clergy sex-abuse victims, including in cases now barred by time or involving dead perpetrators, and victims will be able to seek payments through an administrative process instead of court. The deal, long blocked by church resistance, exposes deep pressure on the hierarchy and could open a new wave of claims under state oversight.
