Pope Leo XIV visited Bamenda on his second day in Cameroon, meeting local leaders, clergy, and displaced families at St. Joseph Cathedral during a pause in the violence to promote peace. The city’s tired, dusty feet got a papal standing ovation, which is at least more productive than the usual global hobby of admiring suffering from a safe distance.

Observed in New York state, Verrazano Day commemorates the discovery of New York Harbor by the Italian navigator Giovanni da Verrazano on April 17, 1524.
