A new mosaic of Our Lady of Gietrzwald was unveiled in the Vatican Gardens, with Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Polish bishops’ leader Archbishop Tadeusz Wojda attending the June 30 ceremony. The display points toward a bigger push ahead of the 2027 Jubilee and a possible papal visit, as Poland seeks stronger Vatican ties around the shrine known as the “Polish Lourdes.”

Russian Submarine K-141 Kursk Sinks in Barents Sea (2000)August 12, 2026
While completing naval exercises with dummy torpedoes on August 12, 2000, the Russian submarine Kursk suffered two explosions two minutes and 15 seconds apart.
