New York City’s Council voted 44-5 to order the NYPD to design buffer zones around houses of worship after anti-Jewish protesters harassed synagogue visitors in Manhattan, with Speaker Julie Menin pushing the plan and Mayor Zohran Mamdani opposing it. The city now needs police to protect worshippers from intimidation, while the mayor gets to perform his veto solo, because the vote is already veto-proof. Faith, meet city theater.
