LATIN MASS EXILE IN PITTSBURGH
Pittsburgh’s last diocesan Traditional Latin Mass is being shut down. Bishop Mark Eckman, one of Pope Leo XIV’s early appointments, said he will not seek another Vatican extension for St. Titus Church in Aliquippa, ending a 20-year run of the ancient liturgy at a diocesan parish. In his August 7 letter, Eckman called the arrangement temporary and said the faithful should be moved toward the post-conciliar rite. For supporters of the TLM, it’s a blunt end to the final refuge in the diocese.

The explosion at Cameroon's Lake Monoun, which killed 37 people, at first baffled investigators. For many Christians around the world, August 15 is the Feast of the Assumption. But in Poland, it is also a time for celebrating the harvest. During the wheat harvest festival known as Dozynki Pod Debami, or Festival under the Oaks, the reapers make wreaths out of grain, flowers, nuts, and corn. When they present their wreaths to the master and mistress of the estate on which the wheat is grown, they are invited in for a feast, which is followed by dancing.
