WASHINGTON — In his latest effort to curb the use of mifepristone for abortions, U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., is launching an investigation into two major manufacturers of the drug: Danco Laboratories and GenBioPro.

On Thursday, Hawley sent letters to both companies informing them of the investigation and requesting a range of documents, including those related to mifepristone’s safety, marketing and manufacturing.

“Mounting evidence suggests that mifepristone poses grave risks to women,” Hawley wrote. “Yet your company has continued to profit from the widespread distribution of this drug, even as serious questions have emerged about hemorrhage, infection, sepsis and other dangerous complications associated with its use.”

U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley is launching an investigation into mifepristone manufacturers Danco Laboratories and GenBioPro, accusing them of profiting despite alleged serious risks like hemorrhage and infection linked to the abortion drug. Writing as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism, Hawley demanded documents related to the drug's safety, marketing, and manufacturing by April 24, seeking to uncover whether the companies concealed harmful information from regulators and the public. This probe follows Hawley’s recent legislative push to ban mifepristone use in abortions.
