A Mexican bishop is igniting a fresh firestorm after telling a pro-LGBT Catholic gathering in Torreón that homosexuality “is not a sin” and that “without the LGBT community, the Church is not complete.” At the opening Mass of a national Rainbow Catholic meeting, Bishop Raúl Vera López pushed full participation and leadership for LGBT-identifying Catholics, framed acceptance as a moral duty, and rejected the notion that sexual orientation is a voluntary or blameworthy condition — a blunt challenge to Catholic teaching now landing inside the Church itself.
