An Australian district court has delivered a devastating blow to the Catholic Church, finding Bishop Christopher Saunders guilty of more than a dozen sexual abuse counts against three young Aboriginal men — victims from the Kimberley region who say the crimes unfolded in places tied to his power, including his residence in Broome and a beach house. Saunders, 76, was convicted of one count of sexual penetration and 12 counts of indecent assault, while being cleared of six other charges, and now faces sentencing Sept. 21 after resigning in 2021 as the scandal exploded.
