Atlantic City’s long-abandoned convent — once headed for the wrecking ball — has been rescued, its chapel restored, and the building reborn as Cappella Studio, a Catholic art space aimed at bringing light to a city Dessicino calls “forgotten” and on the edge of despair. Founded by Jim Dessicino, the studio is meant to reach the lonely and broken where, he says, gambling, vice, homelessness and poverty have taken hold — a blunt wager that beauty, faith and art can push back the darkness.
