15-YEAR-OLD VICTIM, PASTOR FALLS
A Pueblo County pastor is now headed for sentencing after a jury found Stephen Hutto guilty of two felony counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, a stunning fall tied to allegations he preyed on a 15-year-old girl while serving as a youth pastor in Fountain around 2008 or 2009. Hutto, formerly of Fountain Independent Baptist Church and later pastor of Highlands Baptist Church in Boone, was convicted July 10 and faces sentencing in October — a case that puts a hard spotlight on trust betrayed inside the church and the long shadow of abuse allegations that followed him for years.
