Switzerland has ended longstanding military service exemptions for clergy, forcing priests, monks and other religious orders into the same draft rules that require able-bodied men to serve about eight months. Christian leaders say the move was rammed through without consultation and signals a sharp clash between the state and religious communities over respect and burden.
