Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been confirmed as Iran’s new supreme leader following his father’s death in a US-Israeli strike, which also killed key family members and plunged the Gulf into chaos; despite both opposing hereditary rule in line with Shia doctrine, Mojtaba’s appointment was influenced by pressure from the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and approved by the Assembly of Experts, the religious body responsible for selecting and overseeing the supreme leader.
