The Oklahoma man charged in the deadly April shooting of a Kansas priest is headed for a September competency hearing, a crucial step that could determine whether the murder case moves forward. Gary L. Hermesch, of Tulsa, is accused of gunning down Father Arul Carasala in the rectory at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, then driving to the sheriff’s office and admitting he shot him and needed to be arrested. Carasala died after being found with multiple gunshot wounds. The hearing is set for Sept. 3 at the Nemaha County Courthouse.
