Inside a cramped chapel west of Boston, a small but steadfast traditionalist Catholic flock is pressing ahead in Latin, kneeling for Communion and clinging to pre-Vatican II ritual even as the Vatican has declared the Society of St. Pius X to be in schism. At St. Catherine of Siena Church in Weston, the message is unmistakable: this is no nostalgia act, but a defiant break from the modern Church, with the old rites, old vestments and old loyalties still very much alive.

USS Indianapolis Sunk by Japanese, Hundreds Die Awaiting Rescue (1945)July 30, 2026
After delivering parts for the first atomic bomb to a US base in the Pacific, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine. It sank in 12 minutes. Roughly 300 sailors were killed in the initial attack, and the remaining 900 faced exposure, dehydration, and shark attacks while awaiting rescue. The US Navy only learned of the sinking four days later, when survivors were spotted by a pilot on patrol. In the end, only 316 survived. Why was the ship's captain court-martialed?
