CHILE CARDINAL BLASTS ABORTION DOCTORS
Chile’s abortion fight is heating up again as Cardinal Fernando Chomali blasts doctors who perform the procedure and seeks to turn the debate over the “Listen to Their Heart” bill toward medical responsibility, not the mother’s feelings. The proposal would require physicians to inform women of fetal heartbeat activity and offer a chance to hear it before an abortion, and Chomali says he opposes abortion under any circumstances — even as he walks back a tweet he says stirred division. The clash lands in a country already locked over abortion’s three legal grounds, with the cardinal warning that support, not termination, should be the answer.
