TUCSON — At 98, World War II veteran and retired Illinois cop Raymond “Ray” Martin Sr. has done what many never do: received Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation in one moving rite at the Villas of Marana, surrounded by family, caregivers, and fellow residents. After years of attending Mass and praying the rosary, Martin — visibly tearful, deeply grateful, and finally at peace — embraced the Catholic faith in a powerful reminder that it is never too late for grace.

USS Indianapolis Sunk by Japanese, Hundreds Die Awaiting Rescue (1945)July 30, 2026
After delivering parts for the first atomic bomb to a US base in the Pacific, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine. It sank in 12 minutes.
