More than 70 Franciscan friars from across the U.S., Canada, Africa and Rome gathered at St. Bonaventure University for a study celebration marking 800 years since St. Francis of Assisi’s death, with bishops and scholars reflecting on his final witness and teachings. The meeting underscored a global Franciscan family trying to renew its mission amid church, cultural and world upheaval, and to decide how Francis’ radical Gospel vision still speaks to a fractured age.
